TEAM
The Financial Planning and Analysis team acts as a business partner to actively support the NFB’s decision-making process. It creates tools and models, analyzes data organization-wide, and develops narratives and visuals to support decision making and budget forecasting. The team works closely with the organization to understand the key drivers of financial performance and to guide outcomes.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Plays a central role within the Financial Planning and Analysis team by providing proactive support in various advisory and client-support functions, including recurring and in-depth financial analyses, the development and monitoring of performance measures, financial modelling and projections, and the development and continuous improvement of tools and processes.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Consolidates financial data and analyzes monthly and quarterly results of NFB departments; provides detailed explanations of variances and trends in relation to projections and results from previous periods.
In collaboration with various stakeholders, participates in the coordination of the strategic planning and budgeting exercise; accompanies and supports the development and implementation of multi-year budgets.
Prepares financial reports and presentations; provides quarterly updates to various client groups, highlighting key trends and telling the story behind the numbers.
As required, provides support to executive leadership in completing in-depth analyses of departmental expenditures.
Develops and implements impact-measurement indicators; designs tools and updates metrics to monitor and evaluate the efficiency and impact of initiatives and projects.
Identifies opportunities for optimizing data usage; ensures data reliability and coordinates dissemination of data within departments through robust financial models and interactive dashboards that support decision making.
Analyzes results of initiatives, makes recommendations and proposes adjustments aimed at improving performance and alignment with priorities.
Provides advisory services to Finance colleagues to drive continuous-improvement initiatives, optimize the use of digital tools and processes, and leverage data analytics.
Takes part in initiatives to train, inform, support and assist NFB managers and staff in applying current directives, policies and procedures.
Conducts periodic audits to ensure that NFB directives, policies and procedures comply with Government of Canada standards; acts as a point of contact for internal and external auditors, as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
University degree in administration, finance or accounting;
Accounting designation is a significant asset;
Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience, preferably in a large organization;
Expertise in financial modelling, data analysis and dashboards;
Experience in cost management and management reporting;
Experience in interpreting and applying contracts, policies, regulations and directives;
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Power BI);
Knowledge of programming languages (SQL, Python, DAX, etc.) is an asset;
Experience with financial systems such as SAP or Cognos;
Bilingual in both official languages (French and English), oral and written.
