YOUR OPPORTUNITY

  • The unique, permanent and full-time position of Executive Producer, Western Unit, serving British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
  • Your role will be to:
    • Serve as a vital resource in production, and leader to the Western Unit production team, sharing expertise and industry knowledge while fostering collaboration between internal teams and external partners. With strategic planning at the core, you will ensure financial and material resources are managed effectively while maintaining high production standards. Leading a dynamic team, the role focuses on building a cohesive and motivated unit, aligning with NFB values and collective agreements to create a strong, collaborative culture;
    • Evaluate the content, style and relevance of project proposals, selecting those that align with NFB programming objectives for development and greenlight approval. You will support and help guide producers and filmmakers, ensuring they are well-prepared to present their projects with confidence;
    • Ensure teams leverage tracking tools like ShotGrid and follow best practices for deliverables. You will help drive continuous improvement by conducting post-mortems and refining creative, technical, financial and administrative processes. By overseeing all team projects, you will help to ensure that budgets, schedules and risk assessments are well-managed while maintaining open communication with leadership on potential challenges and mitigation strategies;
    • Collaborate closely with Marketing, Distribution, Communications and Technical Resources to ensure seamless project execution in alignment with the NFB’s Strategic Plan. Additionally, the role plays a vital part in talent discovery and development, building relationships with a diverse network of creators and technical artists;
    • Collaborate closely with your creator community by maintaining ongoing dialogue;
    • Serve as a spokesperson for the sector, ensuring ongoing, transparent dialogue with both internal teams and the creative community, strengthening engagement and reinforcing the NFB’s commitment to bold, innovative storytelling.
  • You’ll earn a salary in the range of DE2 ($133,747 and $175,529) and  enjoy a variety of employee benefits—medical and dental insurance, a pension plan, paid leaves and much more.

  • You’ll join a world-class, coast-to-coast team of NFB producers whose work is awarded at the Oscars, Webbys, CSAs, etc. and showcased at premiere international festivals, including TIFF, Sundance, Tribeca, Hot Docs, VIFF, IDFA, Berlin, Annecy and Cannes.
  • You’ll collaborate with our in-house experts in a variety of fields, from business affairs to post-production, marketing and distribution, publicity and communications, education and more.
  • You’ll expand your network and cultivate relationships with accomplished, mid-career and emerging talent, as well as with industry and cultural partners.

 

ABOUT YOU

  • You hold a university degree in arts or media, or equivalent training, combined with a minimum of 11 years of relevant experience in the production industry, including seven years as a producer, and your portfolio attests to your achievements and successes.
  • You have solid management experience and are able to manage production risks as well as develop, control and manage production and studio budgets.
  • You’re adept at planning, hiring and supervising creative, technical and administrative staff.
  • You have strong experience in contract and rights negotiation, with in-depth knowledge of co-production and funding agreements in Canada’s public and private audiovisual sectors; familiarity with broadcasting and distribution is an asset.
  • You have a solid understanding of the Canadian and international production landscape as it applies to the production of documentary projects.
  • You have advanced proficiency in English and are able to communicate with ease in complex work situations, including writing and discussing detailed or technical information. Advanced proficiency in French is considered an asset for this position.
